From June 12th to 15th, 2023, the MUST team participated in the annual 2023 Arctic Development Expo, held in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Canada.
This conference brought together a diverse range of attendees, including researchers, Indigenous leaders, circumpolar Governments, scientists, and industry experts. During the event, the MUST team members played an active role by organizing two sessions. The first session, titled “Green Transitions in the North: An International View,” was moderated by Andrey Petrov. This session aimed to shed light on the pressing need for sustainable initiatives in the Arctic region and fostered meaningful discussions among the participants. The second session titled “Indigenous Urban Experiences and Governance in the Arctic” was moderated by Vera Kuklina. This session provided a platform for Indigenous voices and explored the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Indigenous communities in urban Arctic environments.
Beyond the engaging sessions, the event encompassed a wide array of exhibitions, tours, and entertaining activities. Attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere while gaining valuable insights and forging connections. To express gratitude towards the organizers and the hosts, the Gwitchin, Inuvialuit, and Metis Peoples, Tatiana Degai graced the stage with a traditional Itelmen dance performance. Additionally, Stanislav Ksenofontov delighted the audience with his khomus musical performance.
The MUST team’s participation in the 2023 Arctic Development Expo was a resounding success, contributing to the collective effort of advancing sustainable development and fostering meaningful dialogue in the Arctic region.
