In June 2022, a research team comprising Mongolian, American, and Siberian researchers traveled to the northernmost province of Mongolia, the Khövsgöl (Mongolian: Хөвсгөл) aimag to meet with local and Indigenous communities, learn about their relationships with their animals, infrastructure, and landscapes, and discuss opportunities of future collaboration.  The researchers’ work is part of the “Informal Roads: The Impact of Unofficial Transportation Routes on Remote Arctic Communities” project funded by the US National Science Foundation (award #1748092).
